Born in Tuscon, Arizona on February 12, 1986, Justin has been influenced by music since he could remember.  Relocating to Valdosta, Georgia in 1989, Justin was raised in the heart of the South.  Always having bluegrass around him at family gatherings, it’s almost been an act of osmosis.  His mother and father’s diverse musical taste attracted him to Soul, early RnB, what we now know as Classic Rock, and Gospel music.  Being raised in an old Baptist church, Justin saw firsthand the power music has and it’s life changing power. He graduated from Lowndes High School in 2004 and received his Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Performance from Valdosta State University (VSU) in 2008, with honors throughout his education, including Most Outstanding Student in the VSU Music Department and College of Arts.  Powell received his Master’s degree in Jazz Studies from CCM (University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music).  He next worked for Celebrity and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines until 2013, when he decided to reside in Atlanta, GA.  Justin is now an educator and performer in the Greater Atlanta area.
